In our 11069NAT Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing we always talk about the ripple effect; starting with self and creating a ripple out there in the world - whatever that may mean for each person.
In this interview, a graduate of our Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing shares how completing the Diploma initially aimed to enhance his facilitation and coaching skills and then evolved into a profound personal journey.
What drew you to complete the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing?
I was drawn to the Diploma after exposure to positive education when I worked with educators to implement a student wellbeing and leadership programme within schools across Australia and New Zealand. I was also fortunate to attend the World Congress on Positive Psychology in 2019, which sparked my curiosity and interest in the application of positive psychology across the globe.
Undertaking the Diploma was an opportunity to combine all these learnings within a structured programme and broaden my knowledge of the research and theories encompassing positive psychology.
How was your experience of the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing?
Completing the Diploma was a wonderful and enlightening experience. I commenced the course, initially thinking about all the things that I could apply back into my facilitation and coaching programmes. Along the way, I have learned so much more on a personal level.
I considered myself a self-aware individual, yet the regular application of positive psychology into my life through the activities and assignments helped me uncover a greater depth of self. Upon completion, I feel that now I better understand my emotions, show more kindness to others and, most importantly, have become a better partner, friend, colleague and overall human being.
How are you spreading your positive ripples, and how has the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing helped you achieve this?
I have incorporated positive psychology in numerous facets of my life. Key areas have included the application of strengths, which we explored throughout the Diploma. The theories resonated with me, and I have found new ways to bring my signature strengths to different environments in my life. Professionally, I am more attuned to my team's strengths and communicate this feedback to them. I have noticed how they have started to feel encouraged to showcase these strengths more in their roles.
Another part of the Diploma that was hugely important to me was the unit on emotions. Since undertaking the Diploma, I have found myself more aware of my daily emotions and comfortable utilising a range of strategies to manage the daily experiences of life. This, along with learning about Broaden and Build theory, has encouraged me to be conscious of the benefit of positive experiences in my daily life and the environment I set when interacting with others.
Since finishing, I have shared countless insights with my friends, family and clients. I have found myself encouraging others to sign up and experience the benefits of applying positive psychology to their own lives.
