Creating Positive Change from the Inside Out:
Empowering People and Performance Through Positive Psychology

What drew you to complete the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing?

As a consultant, I have the wonderful opportunity to work alongside many creative and inspiring individuals. Motivated by a desire for continued personal growth and professional development, I sought to deepen my understanding of how positive affect can enhance overall wellbeing. I wanted to concentrate on developing skills that would enrich me as a human being and propel me forward in every area of my life – enabling me to better serve as an individual, wife, mother, supportive friend, and colleague.

In pursuing this path, I was particularly eager to explore the history and foundational figures who have shaped positive psychology into the dynamic field it is today. Their groundbreaking contributions have provided powerful tools and practices that are essential for cultivating a pleasant, engaged, and meaningful life. Unlike traditional models focused primarily on dysfunction, positive psychology offers a refreshing lens that emphasises human strengths, resilience, and the conditions that foster flourishing.

I was also deeply interested in delving into the scientific research surrounding the brain’s functions, specifically how our emotions are intricately linked to both our neurological and physiological systems. Understanding the drivers of emotional wellbeing at this level felt vital to authentically applying positive psychology in my life and work.

I wanted theoretical knowledge, science-backed strategies, and actionable insights that could help me thrive.

How was your experience of the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing?

Positive psychology is incredibly powerful because it bridges the gap between science and practice. It empowers individuals to intentionally cultivate gratitude, hope, resilience, and optimism – qualities that enhance personal wellbeing and ripple outward to positively impact families, communities, and workplaces.

When I enrolled in this Diploma, I had minimal knowledge of what 'positive psychology' truly encompassed. The course prospectus first captured my interest, outlining the programme's benefits. I was drawn to the opportunity to continue my personal growth through my love of learning while also broadening my expertise in a professional capacity.

From the beginning, the experience was transformative. The learning curve was steep at first, as I found myself switching gears – adjusting my thinking and adopting a different, more deliberate language when approaching assignments. However, this challenge quickly became a strength, pushing me to grow both personally and academically.

One of the highlights of the course was the series of personal assessments. These exercises were invaluable, offering deep insights into what makes me unique by helping me understand how my strengths, values, and emotional drivers influence how I navigate daily life. Each assessment added another layer of self-awareness, building a richer, more integrated understanding of who I am and how I can thrive.

The Diploma has been a truly enriching journey that will continue to shape my outlook and actions long after the formal learning has ended.

How are you spreading your positive ripples, and how has the Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing helped you achieve this?

Reflecting on why I pursued this Diploma, I recognise the profound role that learning plays as a catalyst for transformation – both within myself and in the lives of those around me. This journey was fuelled by a deep desire to build valuable skills, broaden my perspective, and cultivate a resilient, optimistic, and purpose-driven mindset.

By deepening my understanding of positive psychology, I have enriched my life and gained the ability to uplift and contribute more meaningfully to others. Growth, for me, has never been about striving for perfection but about embracing continuous progress. This Diploma has strengthened my commitment to self-reflection, adaptability, and the importance of a strengths-based approach in both my personal and professional worlds.

Today, the positive ripples I am creating are centred on fostering environments where individuals feel genuinely valued, supported, and empowered. I firmly believe that when people are given the space to thrive, the entire ecosystem around them flourishes.

Looking ahead, I am committed to integrating the principles of positive psychology by fostering a culture of encouragement, growth, and authentic connection. Whether it’s through coaching colleagues to identify and build on their strengths, creating spaces where collaboration and wellbeing are prioritised, or simply leading by example, I aim to be a catalyst for positive change. By embedding these values into everyday interactions and strategic initiatives, I hope to inspire others to recognise their potential and contribute to a thriving, supportive community.

I am deeply grateful to Sue and her team for sharing the transformative power of positivity throughout this Diploma.

The insights, tools, and practices I have gained are not just knowledge – they are living, breathing parts of how I approach life.

This experience has equipped me to move forward with greater compassion, creativity, and authenticity, and I am excited to continue spreading these positive ripples in every space I touch.
